As the 1 year countdown to the Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey started on 18th July, Danii was already in Dublin for the Irish National Championships and Open Event. This event was being targeted as a good marker for where she is in her training at present and she wasn't disappointed. In a thrilling final of the 50 Freestyle Danii won silver posting 26.44 just 0.29 off the World record & a time which would have comfortably won the event at the World Championships in Texas last year. She followed up with a solid 200 Backstroke just 0.7 seconds outside the world record but claimed yet another World Record in the 100 Backstroke with 1.06.05. To finish off her performances she notched another personal best and GB recoed in the 100 Freestyle with 58.52 and another silver.

GBDSC are delighted to have had Andrew Rees raising funds for our Deaflympic swimmers with his inspiring Channel swim. ASA link here and BBC coverage here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/get-inspired/36826128 A press release from the club is also being sent out to various sources and the just giving page continues to grow with Andrews target almost reached. The club would once again like to thank Andrew for his amazing efforts. "GBDSC are aware that some members will be concerned by the recent political developments in Turkey given that the 2017 Deaflympics are scheduled to take place in Samsun next year. As with any overseas travel we are monitoring the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website on a regular basis for emerging advice. We recognise that it is still 12 months until the Deaflympics and a lot can happen in that time. However at this stage we anticipate that the event will proceed as planned. The safety of our athletes and officials will be paramount at all times. We do of course hope that the situation will stabilise but will continue to monitor the position. We are also in contact with colleagues at UKDS who are also monitoring the emerging situation. "
