Welcome to the 2019 GBDSC World Championships page.

'Due to very unusual circumstances not least of which was the cost for our swimmers it looked as though we might not have been attending this event which given our great successes at the Deaflympics in 2017  would have been unthinkable however it gives me great pleasure to announce that Nathan Young who will be 20 at the time of the event will representative GB. the club are very proud of Nathan who has had a fantastic 12 months developing into an excellent Butterfly swimmer and now holds 4 GB National deaf records in that stroke.
I personally would like to wish Nathan the very best of luck and as a club the whole of GB deaf Swimming will be supporting him all the way.'
Jim Joyce Chairman GBDSC

The event will take place in Sao Paolo, Brazil 25-31 August. Nathan will stay and compete in the 2016 Paralympic village.

Nathan has to raise his own costs as there is no government funding for participation at the Deaf World Championships. Please take the time to read Nathan's story and support him at

Nathan swims with Wirral Metro under the watchful eye of coach Martin Brooks who said   ‘Nathan is at a pivotal point within his 4 year cycle which is geared towards medal success at the 2021 Deaflympics. Whilst we are frustrated that Nathan is the only GB athlete attending, he is in the best shape of his life and this year’s World Championships provides the opportunity to test himself against the world's best, which we fully intend to do.'

GBDSC would like to thank Steve McQuilliam who will coach Nathan at the event which will be of great benefit to him.
