Head Coach Martin Lee  had been involved with GBDSC since 1984 when he was spotted for his talent at a mainstream swimming  competition. Through the club he was given the opportunity to train for and compete nationally and internationally over his swimming career.  His dedication to not just the sport but also the GBDSC family have meant  the club has benefitted  greatly from his expertise and wealth of knowledge.

Competing at many Deaflympics and world championships over his time swimming for the club it may be hard to think of his greatest achievements, however when asked Martin is most proud of the moment in his career when he earnt 5 gold medals,  a bronze and 2 world record in just one competition. This is an amazing feat that shows the unwavering commitment to training.

During his career Martin started with a visible strength for the 1500m freestyle getting bronze in his first ever Deaflympics at the tender age of 15, showing his stamina and strong technique over such a large distance. Later choosing to focus on 400m IM and Breastroke events earing him even more medals.

When asked what advice would you give current and future swimmers Martin said:
'success does not come easy. There is a lot of ups and downs but as long as you learn from them it is fine. You need to work hard and there will be sacrifices on the way, but they are worth it when you win the medals at the end. Always do your best. No one can ask for more!'
